Hi all,
I just started using Arch Linux a few days ago and so far it has been great. One thing I have noticed, is that every night at 4:00 AM, my computer is mysteriously turning itself on. I have checked /var/spool/cron/root and there are no cron jobs scheduled to run at that time( I set all cron jobs to run at a more reasonable time, like 8:00 PM ). Since this is a desktop and not a server, there is really no need for it to run 24/7. Has any one else experienced this ? How do I disable this "feature" ?

How does a program can be executed when computer is off?
I think you should BIOS settings. There are options that wakes the computer up at a specific time.

Are you sure that the computer turns off completely when you shutdown and doesn't just hibernate? But I think Harlekin is right, check your BIOS.

I think what you are experiencing is probably wake-on-lan.

yes WOL would prolly be the most likely to be a culprit here,
you should be able to disable it in bios... [ options to do with your nic]
also, you might wanna check internet log if you can, you never know, someone might be trying to connect...

Clearly your computer is possessed by the ghost of christmas past.
I recommend reading dickens while wearing old fashioned underwear and hopping on one foot, while waving a rubber chicken over your computer.

Thanks for the answers. I guess I will mark this one as stupid question #1.
