I know there's a boatload of sarcasm in your statement, but this is common for someone to say nowadays. You're more likely to see a distribution have a discord(+forums) then not.

Oh but there is, there always is, especially when there isn't. He's sarcastic in his sarcasm, like a double agent. One always has to ask, is he being sarcastic, or double-sarcastic ... or triple?! I suppose odd or even based sarcasm is all we need to know. But we know him so we know:

Sneaking in just to ask, if someone could answer me: why such s "big" change?
For me, this Forum Engine only lacks two things: inline code and users mentions "@USERNAME".
(but that's for me, I know)
Said that, to me Discourse is visually cacophonous.
Social-wise it apparently promotes infantility and idiocy (post-voting follows the idea that we all should eat shit because billions of flies *cannot* be wrong…)

FluxBB isn't maintained so we need to migrate to something else.
https://lists.archlinux.org/pipermail/a … 00297.html
Please read the related discussion, this is not about moving away because we just want something different but rather because the current software here is unmaintained which is just not feasable to run longterm wise. Now complaining about how bad you find everything will not make it go away, please rather try to be constructive and try to propose solutions that fit our usecase better or how we could tune the settings better. Since we'll have to look for a new software anyways we are also looking for some features that the current one is lacking (i.e. SSO etc.(see the issue)).

I confess I read a lot of the discussion but not all of it so maybe I missed it, but it seems the issue originated with FluxBB being unmaintained. Why can't someone with the motivation and ability to maintain it do so? Or is no one willing?

Lots of alternatives far more similar to fluxBB were considered. The use-case / criteria were laid out. A careful analysis of which options met which criteria was conducted. Then, counter to all of those results, discourse was decided upon. It seems there was one unspoken criteria from the start: that the software we use must be discourse.
But by all means feel free to propose other constructive solutions so long as they also are discourse. Any option that is discourse will be given thorough consideration. Of course, other options will be considered not constructive and will be ignored.

I don't know what you're talking about did we read the same discussion? I'm willing to invest time into this topic, but not if I'm being blatantly trolled ..
Then, counter to all of those results, discourse was decided upon.
As far as I'm concerned there was a diverse discussion so far with tons of different arguments and lots of comparisons done. The results of these comparisons were showing discourse as a viable solution and something that needed some trial especially by the admins, so someone spun up a test instance for them to try it out.
So far there has not been any final decision. Therefore please stop framing this in a way where it insinuates that this has been a discussion just for show or whatever you're trying to say with the above.

You really can't be serious.
That "discussion" on options for forum software is one of the most flagrantly dismissive disrespectful and downright dishonest things I've seen in years. Moderators who had dedicated years to this project were openly mocked, belittled, and their points of view completely excluded from the conversation by the dev team.
Either you're blind or complicit. Either way there is no new conversation to be had on it - that much has been made clear by the dictator-devs, and your current superficially polite and open tone is even more insulting and patronizing given how it's all just for show. Certainly the devs can be dictators - that's their prerogative - but don't try to put on a veneer of being anything else.

This thread has diverged from a valid technical question to an argument about the forum software to be used in the future and how it was chosen, which is leading nowhere.
We're done here.
