[SOLVED]ColorGrading and Brightness Issue

1. So after updating my system on June 1st, I have noticed that when I open chromium or any other chromium based browser and my laptop chrager isn't plugged in the colour grading on my system suffers in Hyprland

2. Closing the browser the problem still persists

3. when I plug in the charger the problem goes away but after removing the charger the problem returns

4. Restarting the Hyprland is also not enough, have to reboot the system

5. This problem however isn't visible on xfce4

6. (Hyprland wasn't upgraded)

Re: [SOLVED]ColorGrading and Brightness Issue

Not sure what you mean by "ColorGrading" but

when I plug in the charger the problem goes away but after removing the charger the problem returns

sounds like it's some powermanagement controlling your https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Backlight ?

Re: [SOLVED]ColorGrading and Brightness Issue

But this problem only starts after I run a chromium(-based) browser
Plus its not just the brightness like the colours also look quite strange like some colors become too dark some become too bright
Plus this thing isn't visible in a screen recording

Re: [SOLVED]ColorGrading and Brightness Issue

You might want to ilustrate the problem by linking some screeshots or photos of your monitor.
"Plus this thing isn't visible in a screen recording" however sounds A LOT like the backlight.
Does chromium maybe activate some xdg-desktop-portal or any other daemon?

Re: [SOLVED]ColorGrading and Brightness Issue

1. I get the following error when i launch chromium from terminal emulator
[1297:1322:0602/230444.726976:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(576)] Failed to call method: org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get: object_path= /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: No such interface “org.freedesktop.portal.FileChooser”
[1297:1322:0602/230444.727029:ERROR:select_file_dialog_linux_portal.cc(286)] Failed to read portal version property

2. And for < echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP > it always outputs Hyprland (when using hyprland)

3. And my camera isn't that good, so if I describe it verbally: it gets dim really gradually that if you are not looking for it you won´t notice it, and some colors become dull and others get really saturated

4. When i plug in the charger the colors and brightness abruptly get normal.

5. And I don't know how to check if chromium activates a daemon (Please give the commands)

Re: [SOLVED]ColorGrading and Brightness Issue

And yeah I just noticed that this now somehow also happened on XFCE4, though I am unable to replicate for now.
And with XFCE4, plugging in the charger doesn't resolve the problem.

Re: [SOLVED]ColorGrading and Brightness Issue

And I don't know how to check if chromium activates a daemon (Please give the commands)

It would show up in your system journal, but you could also compare the process list (ps aux) pre and post.

And my camera isn't that good, so if I describe it verbally…  if you are not looking for it you won´t notice it

You're camera is hardly gonna be worse than that…

Do you get the same effect when booting some live distro eg. grml?
Possibly there's simply not enough voltage to keep the display going when eg. CPU or GPU step up (eg. in response to a fat process like chromium)
Do you get a similar effect when running furmark or something like that?

Re: [SOLVED]ColorGrading and Brightness Issue

Yes, so after look in jounralctl I have noticed that its systemd that executes the following processes:
Jun 03 08:17:53 mwoop systemd[1]: Starting Daemon for power management...
Jun 03 08:17:53 mwoop systemd[1]: Started Daemon for power management.
Jun 03 08:17:55 mwoop systemd[716]: Starting XFCE notifications service...
Jun 03 08:17:55 mwoop systemd[716]: Created slice Slice /app/dbus-:1.2-org.xfce.Xfconf.
Jun 03 08:17:55 mwoop systemd[716]: Started dbus-:1.2-org.xfce.Xfconf@0.service.
Jun 03 08:17:55 mwoop systemd[716]: Started XFCE notifications service.

But in XFCE4 it (the power maangement daemon) executes at the launch of XFCE4

And I have asusctl, supergfxctl installed
But I just noticed that even in Hyprland if I set mode to performance mode the colours return to as they should be

I had given my ASUS laptop for repair and looks like they updated my laptop's BIOS and looks like in v313 in Quiet mode they lower they display quality of the screen.
So looks like its a BIOS kink.
