[Solved] KDE with Wayland crashes after login

Since my last update where wayland, qt6/qt5-wayland got upgraded KDE crashes after login. There is a black screen with color lines for 1 or  2 seconds and then back to the login screen. If I switch to X11 then I can login but then for example firefox crashes if I open google maps.

How can I debug this?

Journal log: https://pastebin.com/QvvArEu1
FF crash https://pastebin.com/Nq1iSh4b

Re: [Solved] KDE with Wayland crashes after login

I have the exact same issue with both KDE and Gnome after the last update. The problem persists even after a complete reinstall. I am at bed so I will post my loggs tomorrow.

Re: [Solved] KDE with Wayland crashes after login

I got my machine fixed by downgrading:
- wayland 1.23.0-1 -> 1.22.0-1
- mesa 1:24.1.1-1 -> 1:24.0.8-1
- plasma-workspace 6.0.5.1-2 -> 6.0.5-1

In that exact order. Not sure if all those are necessary, but the process was:
-  wayland downgrade let me log in, but  caused the KDE to lag
- mesa downgrade stopped the lag, but kicked me out after login
- workspace downgrade got everything in order

I also needed to reboot for everything to take effect (restarting just sddm did not take).

Jun 09 17:31:31 kwin_wayland[1274]: kwin_wayland_drm: drmSetClientCap for Atomic Mode Setting failed. Using legacy mode on GPU KWin::DrmGpu(0x5e63d9897b30)

Try downgrading mesa .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Interesting, I also have a Pitcairn GPU of the Southern Islands generation. The AMD HD 7850.

Re: [Solved] KDE with Wayland crashes after login

Thank you I downgraded mesa and mesa-vdpau and it seems to work. I will try to open upstream an issue and post here the link

Re: [Solved] KDE with Wayland crashes after login

I found a solution without downgrading any package. My system was using the radeon kernel module instead of amdgpu although in the arch wiki it is stated that amdgpu does support cards of the Southern Islands (HD 7000 Series, SI, ie. GCN 1) and Sea Islands (HD 8000 Series, CIK, ie. GCN 2).

Following this archwiki article I forced the use of amdgpu and I can now use Wayland again without any problem so far.

Re: [Solved] KDE with Wayland crashes after login

Pilif3, please post lspci -k output to clarify if you are also using the radeon kernel module.
