USB ports on the external display stopped working

I have an external display which connects to my laptop using a USB-C port and it works fine.
The external display have 3 USB-A ports in the back which I use to connect keyboard and mouse.

After the last restart, the 3 USB-A ports in the back of the external display stopped working.
The external display itself (connected with a USB-C cable to my laptop) still works totally fine though.

I don't see any package update since last time that this was working fine which might be a likely culprit here.

How can I debug and fix this?

Were there *any* updates?
Do the ports still work on some live distro (install iso, grml.org, …)?
Do the outputs revive if you re-plug the monitor after the boot?

Specify "don't work":
Do they show up in "lsusb -tv"? Is there any kind of response in "dmesg -w" if you plug a device into one of them?
Have you tried removing all devices attached to the hub but one (and test different ones for that)?
