ThinkPad T14s: inverting mute LED

Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to invert the mute LED on the Thinkpad T14s? By default, LED is on when system is muted, but I would prefer it to be on when system is unmuted (so the LED is alerting me that sound could come out of the machine).

My initial idea was to simply control the LED manually, by setting up the script that listens to the pipewire status and then sending 1 or 0 to the

/sys/class/leds/platform\:\:mute/brightness

.

However, it appears that LED is doubly linked with the mute function - just setting the LED is enough to mute the system (so setting the LED's brightness to 1 will actually mute the sound card, in addition to just turning the light on).

Is there a way to totally disable this link? What controls the LEDs by default? My guess is something inside ALSA?

Thank you.

Have you seen this section on the wiki?

Yes, this section is not very relevant here:

1. It is for the mic LED, not the mute LED
2. It is for exactly inverse problem than mine (this section describes how to fix LED not working natively, while I want to disable native LED handling)
