Firefox and Thunderbird: Stop automatic start after boot

When booting up, after signing in (I use xorg) both firefox and thunderbird automatically start.
How can I prevent that?

Note: There exists no file 'firefox.desktop' or 'thunderbird.desktop' in the autostart folder. (Creating one and specifically stating that firefox/thunderbird should not start (setting X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false) does not fix the problem.)

Edit: I use XFCE.

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird: Stop automatic start after boot

You hinted at Gnome, but you did not tell us what Desktop Environment (DE) you are using.
The autostart is going to be a function of the DE, not the program itself.
