I broke my Arch install

I tried to install something using Pacman (I think it was networkmanager) and my entire screen froze. I waited for a while and shut off my machine, hoping that could fix it (very bad idea). Now a lot of things are broken. I can still boot, but I get a lot of errors, cannot start Hyprland, and can't reboot without root. I found https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=293335 where someone was having a similar issue, but I'm not sure exactly how they fixed it. (I tried reinstalling some of the packages, but they appear to still be partially corrupted)

Also, I cannot access WiFi (could not resolve host) and iwctl gets stuck on "Waiting for iwd to start" even when manually starting iwd, so I'm unable to show my journalctl or dmesg, unless there's a way to do that without WiFi.

How are you online right now?

Also

sudo LC_ALL=C pacman -Qkk | grep -v ', 0 altered files'

Also this section in the wiki and the one after it could be of help: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman … ed_upgrade

Re: I broke my Arch install

@seth I'm using my phone.
@gromit That didn't work. The packages I tried to reinstall appear to still be corrupted.

I might just save my config files and reinstall Arch entirely, since I don't have anything super important on there anyway.

Re: I broke my Arch install

The issue is iwd isn't properly starting. It has nothing to do with my specific router, and so making a hotspot will not make a difference.

Re: I broke my Arch install

I'm just going to reinstall. It's probably going to be easier than fixing this.

The point was: you can use tethering to connect to the Internet and upload log files for us to look at. [Edit - or, looking at Seth's first post, you could use a thumb drive to transfer those those files to a computer that *does* have Internet access.] Without hard data we are simply guessing and playing 20 Questions.

Feel free to reinstall... but you won't learn much that way, and if the problem is something systemic (like a misconfigured video driver or multiple/conflicting network services) you'll be right back here again anyway.

When you return, please post your journal.

Cheers and best of luck,
