Devices start as muted in Kmix

Problem started as soon as I've upgraded Arch to plasma-dsktop 6.1 - found my BT earphones connect but are muted.  I have to unmute them in kmix.  Once I shut them off and or disconnect and then reconnect - they are muted once again and have to be unmuted.

Basically, kmix has device muted and show (when no BT connected) - "Volume muted, Playback Device - USB Speakers".

Seems that some default setting have changed with 6.1.  But what?

System is up to date.
This happens both under X11 and Wayland.
