Hey all.
I recently install Arch on my new pc. I run AMD Radeon RX6600. Now I have artifacts in Xorg and Wayland. After I reinstalled Arch it continued artifacting. But it doesn’t seem to be hardware issue because artifacts won’t appear in livecd of manjaro sway. How can I fix that issue?
CPU: amd Ryzen 7500f
GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX6600 pulse
RAM: 32GB
PSU: 750w
Mobo: gigabyte b650 aorus elite ax
(Also I have two screens connected (1 DP and 1 HDMI) but it doesn’t seem to affect anything because it artifacts even with one screen connected (and every screen artifacts))

Which environment are you running and which artefacts are you talking about? Post a video from your phone or so if it doesn't show up in screenshots. Which kernel/mesa version is the Manjaro live disk using? Tested the LTS kernel?

I’m running hyprland. (But I also tested it in KDE plasma (Wayland and X11))
Manjaro kernel: 6.6.32-1-MANJARO
Manjaro mesa: 1:24.0.8-1
Arch kernel: 6.6.35-2-lts (I tested it on lts) + 6.9.6.arch1-1
Arch mesa (I also tried to downgrade it to version used in manjaro but it not worked): 1:24.1.2-1
Video of artifacts: https://shorturl.at/aeI3G
(It was shown only in VSCode. In Firefox it’s much worse ( https://shorturl.at/vlbDY (this artifacts won’t appear every time but they appear and not only from reloading page but from scrolling it also)) )

The artifacts don't show up in screen recordings, only the output?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU … cy_problem
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU … _using_KDE
You're running manjaro at the same resolution and refresh rate?
Is any of the outputs https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Variable_refresh_rate capable?
Do you use any power saving daemons, TLP etc?
Did you actually try sway on arch?

I have same refresh rate and resolution on Arch and manjaro.
One of my screens supports AMD Freesync but artifacts appear on both screens (one with VRR another without (even if only one screen connected)).
I have no power saving daemons installed.
I tried sway on Arch but artifacts still appear.
Artifacts show up in screen recordings also.

Artifacts show up in screen recordings also.
So it's the render, not the signal - can you post that video as well?
Did you try the mitigating kernel parameters?
In doubt throw
amdgpu.sg_display=0 amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffbffd amdgpu.runpm=0 amdgpu.bapm=0 amdgpu.aspm=0 pcie_aspm=offOnline
looks like bad vram or some bad solderjoint of either the gpu or on of ram
would rma as broken/dead on arrival

Artifacts: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Rlpvh3 … p=drivesdk
Also amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffbffd causes system to not load (my screens not loading and I can’t enter anything)

If it was hardware problem than I would have same artifacts in live cd (of manjaro sway) but I have no artifacts in live cd so it appears to be software issue

It seems that this problem is partially fixed because X11 awesomeWM works fine but if I’ll start any app window of that app will artifact.

Is "any app" some GL client?
This looks like the GPU ends up being underpowered, you're still applying the other parameters from #6?
Please post your complete system journal for the boot:
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.stOnline

Yes it’s GL clients (or it seems to be. Firefox still artifacts (but lesser) and OBS with artifacts also (but artifacts in most apps are only on startup))
Posted system journal (Xmec.txt)

although driverissues can cause artifacts what can be seen in the videos hints to some serious hardware malfunction - either power supply, board, ram, something with the gpu itself or even thermals
and even if it is the driver causing the artifacts it's clear sign that the card does not behave as expected - which in turn rules out the driver as it doesn't cause issues on someone elses system - if it's the driver - which is just software - at least someone else would have the same artifacts due to running the same software
don't forget - computers are just fancy calculators doing some math - math only knows one exact answer to a given question - if I feed in the same software a behaving hardware will always reproduce the same output
just by this simple logic analogy it should be clear that the root cause has to be malfunctioning hardware as the result is different from what it should be
from own experience my money is on the vram here - a common failure caused by bad solder connections often repairable be reballing and reflowing
as it's a fairly new card it should be still within warranty - just RMA as defective - that's what warrenty is for

Does the GPU step up when running eg. firefox?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU#Manually
Does it help to manaually select a higher performance level or power profile?

No it doesn’t help. It seems to be OpenGL issue because only OpenGL apps (eg glxgears) artifacts while Vulkan apps (eg vkgears) not.

For x11, did you install xf86-video-amdgpu?

Yes. But there are still problems in Firefox and other OpenGL apps.
