[SOLVED] Make firefox usable with nvidia dgpu?

As the title says, I'm having trouble getting firefox running with my nvidia dgpu. This is one of a few last blockers I have for migrating from Windows smile

The reason I have firefox run on the dgpu is to get better performance out of a web game I play. The game runs noticeably worse with the igpu, it feels like 30 fps (my display is 165 Hz).

Unfortunately, the obvious `prime-run firefox` makes the display go a bit crazy, as you can see on my recording here. The dgpu itself is working fine it seems, given that it runs OBS just fine and it can use nvenc.

What could I be missing?

In case it matters, my device is a Lenovo Legion 7i gen 6 with an i7-11800H + RTX 3070 Mobile, running KDE on wayland.

What happens if you simply suspend the compositor before (SHIFT+Alt+F12)?

Re: [SOLVED] Make firefox usable with nvidia dgpu?

That seems to pertain to X11, which I'm not using. I gave it a shot anyway, running with `MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0 MOZ_X11_EGL=0 prime-run firefox`, but while that did get it to run with xwayland, it still reports the intel igpu being used rather than the nvidia dgpu. Pressing Shift+Alt+F12 doesn't seem to do anything on my install.

Suspending the compositor won't work on wayland - how does FF behave on kde/X11?

`prime-run firefox` works exactly as expected on X11, no fiddling around with anything needed. But having to fall back to X11 for certain applications feels lame, given that wayland will be the future. Still, I guess this is a firefox bug then. Maybe in a few more years I can fully migrate smile

wayland will be the future

Exactly: wayland has been the future since 14 years and will continue to be the future for 14 years.
Nobody said anything about the present tongue

Also there's no wayland, the thing you worry about is kwin_wayland, the KDE wayland compositor.
Maybe there's a already a bug open on bugs.kde.org

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
