Hi folks,
I have two problems with vmware-server from AUR, but only with the beyond kernel. On the stock kernel vmware runs without problems.
I added vmware to daemons in rc.conf. I ran vmware-config.pl. But everytime I want to start vmware (under beyond kernel) I get this:
vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl.
After deleting /etc/vmware/not_configured I can start the vmware-server until the next reboot (then I have to delete it again).
-------------------------------------------------------
But the major problem is an other thing. Wether I want to start my virtual machine (Windows 2000) I get an error too, but I couldn't find out a workaround.
Unable to change virtual machine power state: The process exited with an error:
End of error message.
With the stock kernel no issue.
Can anyone help me?
greetings

check the vmware logs. There's one as well in /tmp/vmware-USERNAME. I remember I used to have a similar problem and found the answer to it in the logs.

Hi waldek_a,
Thanks for your reply. I checked the vmware logs und I found this:
Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded
Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded
I downloaded vmware-any-any und ran ./runme.pl -> click
Same problem...

My guess is you don't have the vmmon and vmnet modules for the beyond kernel, only for kernel26. Get vmware-server-modules from the AUR, change the _kernver variable to 2.6.19-beyond, and build.

That worked for me

Glad you're up and running.
And the hero thing is good too.

@SuiRIS and ratur
guys, could you try "snapshot" and "revert"? The "Revert" fails in my case. Does it work for you?
cheers

Hi waldek_a,
"Revert" fails here, too -> Error "Insufficient permissions"

ok. thanks. I'll try to ask vmware.

Would be nice if some VMware-users could have a look at this thread.
Sorry for the "kind-of-crosspost"...
Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch.
