Nvidia 555.58.2 + Secondary monitor on Thunderbolt not working

Hi everyone.

I have the following hardware:
* Lenovo X1 Extreme laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti
* Lenovo ThinkVision p40w-20 external monitor connected through Thunderbolt/USB-C

Desktop environment:
* KDE
* Wayland - because I need different scaling ratios for the external monitor and the laptop display

With the Nvidia 550 drivers I have everything working without issues. I configured the following module settings to make it work back when I've got my monitor:

[csaba@csaba-laptop ~]$ sudo cat /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-modeset.conf
options nvidia_drm modeset=1 fbdev=1

And this is working like a charm.

After I updated to the latest Nvidia 555 drivers (555.58-2) the monitor is not showing anything any more. When I connect the monitor, it seems like it senses some signal, but remains dark and then starts looking for signal after a few seconds.
This behavior is very similar to how the 550 driver behaved before adding the modeset=1 parameter.

With the 555 driver, I tried with or without modeset=1, but the problem persist. I just can't get anything to show on the external monitor.

I am not sure if it is relevant, but I also have a PC with NVidia 2070 card and an identic monitor. There the monitor is connected over DisplayPort, and I have absolutely no issues with the 555 Nvidia drivers.

Both systems are running Arch Linux, KDE, Wayland.

Do you have any idea how to make the external monitor work on NVidia 555 drivers on the Lenovo laptop?

Please let me know what logs to look for or provide here for easier debugging.

Thanks people.

The issue is very common, use the 550xx drivers or the 535xx drivers from the AUR (later drivers seems to also corrupt the kernel memory, causing semi-random kernel panics and esp. during updates because of peculiar systemd behavior)

Yeah, I saw those. Thanks.

However nobody seems to be reporting issues on Thunderbolt or DisplayPort. Most people are actually saying that after connecting the monitor to Thunderbolt or DisplayPort it started to work.
That is why I was surprised and decided to open a new thread, as I have issues on Thunderbolt.

Unfortunately I only have Thunderbolt and HDMI on my laptop, but this monitor at 5k cannot do more than 30Hz on HDMI, I need the Thunderbolt connection for the 75Hz refresh rate.
