Volume control on Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 9 workarounds?

Out of the box it appears that I have issues changing volume on my Thinkpad and the only workaround I know to fix this is via the method described in https://askubuntu.com/questions/1192306 … u-18-and-1 which involves modifying /usr/share/alsa-card-profile/mixer/paths/analog-output.conf.common to insert the following above `[Element PCM]`:

   [Element Master]
   switch = mute
   volume = ignore

This appears to work but it frequently breaks each time `extra/alsa-card-profiles` is updated as it gets overwritten and I didn't really want chattr +i the file.

Just curious if anyone else has been contending with this underlying issue and what they've done to address it? My current stack is pipewire.
