This reddit post I made should explain my situation pretty well. You should also check the comment thread for more info.

That's not how this support forum works. If you want support here, post the details here; don't make people hunt for the information they need to help you.
Mod note: Moving to NC.

from the brief look over the thread: you screwed yourself by overwriting citical blocks - due to that it's unlikely to recover
best resolution: wipe and start over from scratch
but I agree with the mod: although thanks for info about the cross-posting - if you ask on reddit expect your answers on reddit - if you want answers here ask your question here

The OP could simply expand the partition past the old boundaries then use fsck and resize the filesystem. It might work as long as the data outside the reduced partition boundary hasn't been over-written or trimmed.

The thread there suggests that the OP has also written onto the previous blocks of the FS (but I stopped clicking, the reddit thread model simply sucks) so the best hope would be one of the alternative superblocks
testdisk can recover partitions and along photorec may be able to recover some files, but if you've shredded the FS (what's likely) and there's no critical data on the drive, starting over is the most straight forward and efficient approach.

as far as I read OP has already overwritten part of the previous blocks - don't know how resilient the used FS is - and although it may be possible to get it back in order - some data already lost

Apologies to the OP, I also found the Reddit site impenetrable ![]()
