[SOLVED] No proper fonts for non-Latin/Cyrillic languages on KDE

Now shifting from my Mac to my custom PC, the monolith, it has spurn an issue with fonts that don't use Latin or Cyrillic letters (i.e. Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, the Hebrew alef-bet) on it, where it shows everything has hex codes in a box. I first found out about that when I logged into KDE, and the text I left by the main menu button which was スタート (Japanese for "start", like in older Windows versions) has become a bunch of squares with 4-bit hex in them. I'll send an example image tomorrow morning, since I am very tired after all this work on the Mac and getting it to properly boot and what-not.

For those asking, the Mac still works, and I am typing on it right now. I waited 30 minutes for Mozc to compile, just to realize it was the fcitx4 version and not the fcitx5 version. Fun.

another note about the monolith: it is using the closed-source Nvidia driver on the standard Linux kernel, so KDE runs on X11 and not Wayland. I have the OpenSiddur font package for Hebrew, and Koruri for Japanese.

Thing is, they're installed. I installed them from the AUR, both Koruri and OpenSiddur.

fc-list | grep "Unicode BMP Fallback SIL"

It will print the path to the font file which you can then check w "pacman -Qo" to see where that's coming from.
Try to get rid of it.

Intended for debugging, this font contains a glyph for every character in the Basic Multilingual plane (including Private Use Area) of Unicode 5.1, each glyph consisting of a box enclosing the four hex digits identifying the Unicode scalar value.27.02.2012

So obviously get rid of that.

turns out it was OpenSiddur, now removed. I'll pick out another font package for Hebrew or see if KDE might come with one.

now there's another issue, can't use other languages outside of Firefox (e.g. Fcitx5 doesn't respond to me pressing Meta+Space in any other window that isn't Firefox).

Should I just open another issue for this?
