New computer - incorrect refresh rates

Hello,

I have a little problem with the refresh rates of my displays, and I think it might be a hardware issue.

Back in March, I got a new pc and switched from Mint to Arch:

Kernel: Linux 6.10.1-zen1-1-zen
Display (Q27G2SG4): 2560x1440 @ 155 Hz in 27″ [External] (AOC 027G2E)
Display (2436): 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz in 23″ [External]
WM: Hyprland (Wayland)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (12) @ 3.70 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT [Discrete]
GPU Driver : amdgpu
Mainboard: MSI B550-A PRO

The monitors were not new, I used them with my old PC before.

Everything works fine, but the actual refresh rates aren't. Even though it says 155 Hz in the setting, it feels more like 60, and on my second monitor it feels more like 30 instead of 60. First, I thought it might be a Hyprland issue and logged into KDE Plasma, but the issue persists. I even booted back into Mint to see if it was an Arch specific problem, but the issue was still there.
Later, I connected my laptop with Fedora installed on it to my 155 Hz monitor, and it worked and everything was so smooth, and it definitely was 155 Hz. I even plugged in an old Chromebook and there was no issue with it.

So I think it might be an issue with the GPU, the Mainboard or perhaps a driver issue.

I would be very grateful for any help.

Re: New computer - incorrect refresh rates

I have the RX7600S in a laptop with a 165Hz display and it obviously works under sway — scrolling in the browser is significantly more jerky if I force a 60Hz refresh rate.

So do you experience this problem under sway?

We can check your drivers:

lspci -knn -d ::03xx

If you're using AMDGPU-PRO then you're probably doing it wrong tongue

Re: New computer - incorrect refresh rates

Thank you for your answer!

The output is:

❯ lspci -knn -d ::03xx
2d:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 33 [Radeon RX 7600/7600 XT/7600M XT/7600S/7700S / PRO W7600] [1002:7480] (rev c0)
	Subsystem: Tul Corporation / PowerColor Device [148c:2430]
	Kernel driver in use: amdgpu
	Kernel modules: amdgpu

Haven't tried sway yet, but since the problem persists under Hyprland, Plasma and Cinnamon (Mint) I'm not very hopeful. But I can certainly try it later.
