[Solved] GIMP "Adw-gtk3" system theme

When the default GNOME Adwaita theme is selected it is fine with GIMP, but it doesn't respect Adw-gtk3 theme as system theme in GIMP settings.
How could I set up GIMP to respect Adw-gtk3 theme?

So it's fine but not respected? Errr… what??

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/gimp/ still links gtk2

Re: [Solved] GIMP "Adw-gtk3" system theme

When you set "Adwaita" theme via Gnome Tweaks, Gimp respect that theme and GIMP UI looks just fine, but when you change to "Adw-gtk3", Gimp UI have no theme and looks very ugly.

Re: [Solved] GIMP "Adw-gtk3" system theme

I have both of those packages installed, gnome-themes-extra from official repositories (extra) and adw-gtk3 form AUR.

Re: [Solved] GIMP "Adw-gtk3" system theme

Yes, but *why*?
gnome-themes-extra provides adwaita for GTK2 and GTK3, what's the point about "adw-gtk3" Why do you want to use that?
There's no gtk2 variant of that theme, so if you somewhat gloablly configure it as GTK theme, gimp cannot use it.

Re: [Solved] GIMP "Adw-gtk3" system theme

Yes. adw-gtk3 has no gtk2 theme and GIMP has no use of it. I figure that out already, but I do not want to believe it.
Why I use it? It's slightly "polished" and much better looking than the adwaita theme.
So, GIMP is retarded by using gtk2 instead of gtk3 or gtk4 toolkit.

Eventually I've changed the gtk theme to Qoqir for now.

Thank you very much for your effort and time!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMP#GIMP_3.x
Also note

A GUI toolkit called GTK (at the time known as the GIMP ToolKit) was developed to facilitate the development of GIMP. The development of the GIMP ToolKit has been attributed to Peter Mattis becoming disenchanted with the Motif toolkit GIMP originally used.

Mean people would likely say that there was reasons to avoid gtk3 while gnome developers were still breaking the API/ABI w/ every minor release…

Thanks.

It will be solved in the next version of GIMP. Sorry GIMP for my rude words! smile
