Hello all!
Hardware:
Framework 16 laptop
CPU: AMD Ryzen 8 7740HS w/ Radeon 780 Graphics
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7700S
I do not think that my graphics card is seeing any use since I tried to do a Blender Benchmark and it was not a select-able option (only cpu popped up). When I opened up amdgpu_top(from AUR) I saw both graphic options so it is obviously being seen by the computer in some way (although the GPU sat at mostly zero in usage but still recorded temps)
Also the display is only connected the the CPU rather that the GPU.
So the question is... How do I switch the laptop to using the GPU for graphics rather than the CPU?
With my desktop I just plugged in the monitor to the GPU directly but I am not sure about the best approach for laptops.
I have also double checked and I am fairly sure all the AMD drivers are installed and kernel loaded.
Any info would be great.
All the best
Ranon

Blender requires special drivers to work with amdgpu and may very well fail. Leave that alone for now.
It looks like the laptop has 2 AMD videocards (internal + discrete) , please post the full output of lspci -k .
There's a 99.9% chance you're running a hybrid graphics system , look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

If the laptop has a MUX switch the discrete card will be used for 3D stuff automatically, no need to do anything. But Blender is a special case, as Lone_Wolf notes.

I understand that the Blender Benchmark thing might not be necessary, I just through this meant that the graphics card is not hooked up or something. But if its all good I will leave as is.

If you have any graphically intensive games it will be fairly obvious if they're not running on the discrete card, the framerates will be much lower. I use nvtop to check which card is being used.

Phoenix1 appears to be the codename for the ryzen 7 7840HS processor, so you probably swapped 8 and 7.
Since both cards are shown as VGA compatible controller HoaS is probably right about the mux switch .
Are you running X or wayland ?
If X, the outputs of
$ xrandr --listproviders
$ glxinfo -B
$ DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo -B
should be useful.
EDIT: DRI+PRIME was a typo

Pretty sure I am using X rather than wayland.

That works logically as intended. If you want to run intensive programs run them with DRI_PRIME=1 (or better DRI_PRIME=pci-0000_c4_00_0 as that will really only expose the dedicated card), maybe also try that with blender (though that might need some more envs for proper switching because they aren't going to use just GL)

Ok sounds good, if everything is working as intended I will probably leave it as is since i am not experiencing any issues.
I had some issues before with not loading Nvidia cards properly so just wanted to double check.
Ill mark this one as pretty much solved.
Thanks again everyone, this has been super helpful
