[Solved] Corrupted Display on SDDM After Connecting Second Monitor

My setup has been working for several weeks now, using KDE as my desktop environment and SDDM for login. Recently, I connected a second monitor to my system and SDDM began displaying a seemingly static filled version of what it should. Everything works just fine, and I can log into my system without issue. After logging in, there also seem to be no issues. SDDM is the only point where this issue is present. Let me know if there's any logs or other information I can provide to make this easier on y'all, I'm still getting used to Arch and don't really know which logs would be helpful for this.

Re: [Solved] Corrupted Display on SDDM After Connecting Second Monitor

* Is only the second output "static" or everything?
* SDDM on wayland or X11?
* Is this a hybrid graphics system and do you connect the second output to the other GPU?
* Do you have any /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup script?
* or /var/lib/sddm/.config/* config?

Re: [Solved] Corrupted Display on SDDM After Connecting Second Monitor

* Only the first display is static actually, the second one is just a black screen (and for reference, the exact appearance of the static is this: https://imgur.com/a/computer-screen-rcntWnL).
* SDDM is on X11. I use Wayland for my desktop, and after trying an X11 session for my desktop, I had the issue appear there too. It went away as soon as I returned to a Wayland session.
* Both monitors are connected to the same GPU (NVIDIA, if that matters at all)
* There is not anything in /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup
* There are a handful of files in /var/lib/sddm/.config, namely kcminputrc, kdeglobals, kwinoutputconfig.json, user-dirs.dirs, user-dirs.locale, and plasmarc. Of those, only kwinoutputconfig.json seems like it has information that could affect this (the others are just contain some basic data about the theme and wallpaper I use for SDDM). I attached the contents of this file, let me know if any of the others would be helpful.

Re: [Solved] Corrupted Display on SDDM After Connecting Second Monitor

kwinoutputconfig.json seems like it has information that could affect this

Remove that and if that doesn't help, please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General
It kinda looks like SDDM tries to render two outputs into the same screen.

Edit: in doubt enable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting - use the "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" kernel parameter (modprobe.conf won't do!) to expose the edid to the drm subsystem and get rid of the simpledrm device.

Re: [Solved] Corrupted Display on SDDM After Connecting Second Monitor

[     7.943] (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"

Remove that file, don't regenerate it.

If you want to enable ForceCompositionPipeline or ForceFullCompositionPipeline, do this selectively w/ a drop-in.

Section "Device"
    Identifier     "My nvidia GPU"
    Driver           "nvidia"
    Option         "ForceFullCompositionPipeline" "on"
    Option "ForceCompositionPipeline" "on" # pretty sure that's implied, though
    Option         "TripleBuffer" "on" # maybe?
EndSection
