GDM broken on Wayland after upgrade

Hi all,

I've recently fully upgraded my system after roughly two months of no updates. After the first restart, whenever I would reach the graphical interface target, I would be greeted by a gray screen (only one of the two monitors) and no clickable user.
I thought I must have broken something or that my entire installation was unstable due to small changes here and there, and I decided to install it from scratch. After installing everything and rebooting, I was once again greeted by the same gray screen (the default GDM background colour if my eyes serve me right).

Here are the relevant steps I took:
* installed nvidia, gdm, gnome-shell
* set the `nvidia_drm.modeset=1` kernel param in the loader entry (I'm using systemd-boot)
* created the udev symlink (`ln -s /dev/null /etc/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules`) to force enable Wayland
* added nvidia, nvidia_modeset, nvidia_uvm, nvidia_drm to the MODULES list in `mkinitcpio.conf`
* removed the kms hook from `mkinitcpio.conf` and installed `nvidia-utils`, which also blacklists the `nouveau` module

This is a clean install, with nothing other than the aforementioned steps being performed and the minimal configuration as per the installation guide.

The journal log can be seen here: https://0x0.st/XfG6.txt

Later add: Based on my further investigation, the title should say "Cannot enable second monitor on Gnome with Wayland"

Re: GDM broken on Wayland after upgrade

I would like to add that during my experimentation, the gray background on one of the monitors was simply the GDM background, with the primary GDM login screen on the other screen. I disconnected one of the monitors (the one that is off), and the login prompt moved to the working one. I managed to log in and see that both of them are connected and show up correctly in the Display section of the GNOME Settings app.

My GTX 1060 card has three ports: a DP port, an HDMI port, and a DVI-D port. One of the monitors is connected directly via HDMI, and the other via an HDMI-to-DVI-D adapter. I swapped them around, and the one via DVI-D is always off.

Later add: It's important to mention that on Windows both screens works as expected. Moreover, both screens work as expected under Ubuntu on X11.

Hey!

Have you perhaps fixed your issue?
I wrote about mine here which is also an issue with NVIDIA and GDM, even if I'm not having the same issues as you, the fix may be the same (hopefully...).

Hi! Unfortunately, I have not found a fix for now, so I switched temporarily to Ubuntu.
I am considering reinstalling Arch while using a repository snapshot dated a few months back when everything was definitely stable, especially considering that this broke after upgrading the Nvidia driver.
