The generic answer is that sudden reboots are caused by
- overheated system
- undervolted system (old/low battery, bad power supply)
- a broken CPU
- bad RAM (=> run memtes86+ for 16+ hours)

From the little info we have on the situation, this is the by far most likely cause. The battery might easily be required to provide a stable current.

Also there might be an issue with the old charger or AC power supply in general. Without a battery small interruption from a charger, main AC supply and anything in between such as old charging port can cause laptop to turn off.
I have a Lenovo z585 ( 10 year old) and its original lenovo charger started having power delivery issues when playing any videos or games as the required power goes higher than 40 W. When i replaced it with a generic new charger everything worked just fine.
