Whenever an application asks me to give it a file it doesn't let me give it one because it won't let me access some directory like the download directory

Hello. What application? How does it asks you? How do you try to give a file? What file? Where from? What doesn’t let you access a directory? What directory? Why do you believe it doesn’t let you access it? Nobody knows, what you see and do.

The application is Nemo. When I was trying to give Bottler an exe to play windows games it wouldn't let me go past my user directory because my folders weren't showing up like my downloads folder, and I put the files in the downloads folder but since I can't access that folder I couldn't access the file in there. I can't give it a file. The file is a game called Touhou Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, it's 32 bits, From a cd. I don't know what doesn't let me access the directory. And it doesn't let me access any directory in the user folder. I don't know why this is happening.

What happens, if you type the path to that folder directly in the path bar?
Can you navigate to it, if you go through the file system tree (in the left pane)?

when I run nemo alone it lets me type the directory to the folder, but when an application opens up nemo to make me select a file it doesn't let me type in a directory and acts like nothing happened when I click on the directory to try and type one in.

The file dialog is NOT your filebrowser.
Link a screenshot of the file dialog and please explain what "bottler" is.

https://postimg.cc/300p3fHB The file explorer on the left side is Nemo and then the one which you pointed out is not Nemo is on the right. Also I can upload these image files and it shows me all the directory. https://postimg.cc/jwtJJ6JH According to their website Bottles is an application that lets you run Windows exe and it lets you manage Windows prefixes easily. The reason I was trying to use Bottles is because I was following a guide on how to play Touhou on Linux and in the guide they tell you to use Bottles to run Touhou so I assumed they used Wine to run Touhou and it didn't run well on there. https://moriyashrine.org/forums/topic/2 … der-linux/

Just because some random person on a web forum says something, doesn't mean it's correct.

Have you tried just running it through wine or following any of the wine guidance on our wiki?

from the first shot: the launcher looks like Alpine - which isn't Arch!

Can you alter the filter from "All supported executables" to "all files"
Can you edit the path by pressing cltr+L ?
Do you otherwise use steam/have a steam account?
Also https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Touhou - generically
cd /path/to/touhou.exe
wine tohou.exeand for some iterations there're even AUR packages.

I have another guess: Do you use the bottles flatpak and maybe did not give it the necessary permissions to read the directories?

I ran Touhou Embodiment of Scarlet Devil on wine and it worked. I installed Linux Arch by using the archinstall command, I don't know if that changes anything. I changed the filter to all files and I still can't see the directory and I tried doing cltr+L and it worked but when I enter a path it says it doesn't exist. I have a Steam account but you can only play Touhou 10-19 on Steam. I assume that I used the Bottles flatpak from the command I used to install it "$ flatpak install bottles" I don't know if Bottles has the necessary permissions to read directories but if you know of a command to check can you tell me what it is.

for checking the permissions of flatpak, I recommend using a gui program called flatseal.
by the way, the change of the file filter to 'all files' is necessary all the time for me. So expect to change it, when you are in the right folder.
