[solved?] One 2nd monitor works, the other doesn't (on KDE wayland)

My laptop has AMD iGPU and a nvidia 3070 dGPU. Running nvidia-beta (560.31.02), but the same problem happened on 555 as well (I am on 560 currently as that fixes some other issues with suspend). nvidia-drm.modeset is set and verified by checking /sys/module/nvidia_drm/parameters/modeset.

I've been using wayland for a while on this setup, but there's one specific external monitor which doesn't play nice (and used to, months ago).

The setup which seems to work fine is having an Acer ED242QR (1920x1080) plugged in to the HDMI cable on my laptop. SDDM and plasma both show on my laptop screen (2560x1600) and on the monitor.

But when using my ViewSonic VX2758 (2560x1440) plugged in to the same HDMI cable, I am able to detect the monitor (it shows in Display Configuration) but the screen is either black or just the dark gray plasma loading screen. Apps can still be dragged to the monitor (it doesn't show), and the mouse cursor DOES show on the monitor (including different cursors if there's an app which changes the cursor, e.g. steam).

Once in a while, the monitor will work fine, and then without any software/plugging changes it will suddenly turn off and refuse to show images (or revert to the dark gray plasma loading screen).

None of this happens in a plasma X11 session or on my dual-boot windows install for the same monitor, cable, and other physical setup.

Not even sure how to begin debugging this, any ideas?

EDIT: So... the best way to solve this problem is apparently to post this question, because I cannot get the issue to show up again (most likely due to a version bump in nvidia-beta)....
