It does. After running it, X conks out. It will not start, with
(EE) No screens found.
According to Xorg.0.log, the driver loads fine.
I can hwd -xa and it works fine. I cannot tell whether the ATI driver is running, is there any way to tell?
Any suggestions?
if it's not my own stupidity, is it a bug?

A little context around that error message might help, plus showing us the actual xorg.conf generated by aticonfig could shed some light on it.
Not sure why the aticonfig-generated conf doesn't work right away, but then I've never totally relied on auto-configurators for this; still too uncertain.

I believe that the logs get refreshed after each restart ( and I have had quite a few of them). I'll try to recreate the problem when I can. Thanks.
