Bluetooth headphones disconnecting, no sound

I've recently tried connecting my bluetooth headphones to my Arch ThinkPad with no success. BT has hard time even connecting to the headphones and even if succedes, there's no sound and the connection is dropped either after a few seconds or when trying to play sound.

Headphones: Xiaomi Mi Earphones 2 Pro (but tried with other heaphones with no effect)
PC: ThinkPad T490S
relevant lsusb part: Bus 001 Device 005: ID 8087:0aaa Intel Corp. Bluetooth 9460/9560 Jefferson Peak (JfP)

Had the exact same issue on this PC using Ubuntu.
