Cant suspend laptop on close lid

I have tried to edit the .conf at
/etc/systemd/logind.conf

HandleLidSwitch=suspend
HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=suspend
HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend

and turned all the switch options to suspend, but i have had no luck, the laptop does suspend when i type in
systemctl suspend

I have a script to watch and do this. You may want to try the actual fixes first but my script is working perfectly.
