SOLVED - it was a problem with the version of eglexternalplatform i had installed.
This is almost certainly not an arch problem and definitely not supported - but can anyone please point me to the right place to ask about and/or report this?
I assume it's not an arch package problem as I am using the unsupported gnome-unstable repo and I am also using the testing repo which is bound to create issues. But, everything WAS working fine with the beta versions of the gnome 47 release plus the other updates to testing. Something came through which produced the state where gdm fails to launch because it thinks I want X11. I almost never want X11 because I've hard-coded wayland in various places to produce the appropriate workarounds for browsers, Steam games, SDL apps and other things that expect something non-waylandy. I realize this isn't supported per se but can someone please at least help me figure out where to solve this? I'm willing to contribute a PKGBUILD or a user repo if there's some kind of configuration option I can enable when compiling these packages. I haven't had a lot of good luck with the gnome packages in the past using -git versions of some packages. The -performance versions can be useful I've found. But it'd be nice if there were some kind of AUR package or user repo that would tell all the gnome things just not to ever invoke X11 for anything?
