System bricked after "Failed to start Virtual Console Setup"?

Dear forum, today I failed big. An update after several months and my system is so completely bricked I cant even get to any console.
At first my Surface keyboard wasn't working anymore for decrypt as described also https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/t13zun/keyboard_works_during_grub_but_not_during/, but I figured I solve that quickly with some Mkinitcpio tweaks, as I already did in the past.
Then after I got home, could connect an external keyboard and decrypt, the system quickly freezes afterwards with the stated last message.

The only thing I'm shown (and thus all error message I have) is on the following screenshot, which is already in recovery mode (which also freezes):

Anyone having any idea?

Do you get the same issue if you install the LTS kernel and boot from that?

Also when did these errors start to occur?

Re: System bricked after "Failed to start Virtual Console Setup"?

The errors occurred after a pacman -Syu and restart yesterday. Chronologically the error occurs immediately after decrypting the hard-drive. Note I haven't updated the system for months before that, maybe not even this year.

I haven't tried anything so far, as the system in inaccessible. I'd have to prepare a new boot stick probably, and have never installed a new kernel manually. Do you recommend me to try that?

Uh that makes it quite hart to narrow down ... Preparing a boot stick and reinstalling linux and additionally installing linux-lts could be good first troubleshooting steps ..

Re: System bricked after "Failed to start Virtual Console Setup"?

systemd-vconsole-setup parses /etc/vconsole* and runs loadkeys and setfont accordingly - inspect those config files from the live system.
In doubt move them away and regenerate the initramfs.

ov13858 is some CLGA sensor, webcam, fingerprint - just blacklist that module to get it of the way, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … and_line_2

Also remove the quiet parameter, rather https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Genera … l_messages - but I'd not be entirely surprised if the systemd-vconsole-setup failure would be critical.
Can you reboot the failing system using the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Keyboa … el_(SysRq)
