Serial to USB via putty

Howdy all!

I am attempting to configure a new switch using putty, however I am having an issue with the usb device (Okiwan serial to usb) I am using to access the console port, I have managed to get around the device not being recognized by configuring minicom as per another guide, however I still get a blank cli that wont accept any non navigational input. Photo attached for clarity's sake.
