Thinkpad R60E

Now the sales have come i think im going to buy a laptop, i have looked into the R60E and it sounds very nice, before i buy it i have a few questions....

1) Is duial core easy to enable
2) Will the wireless work out of the box
3) WIll the graphics drivers be easy to setup for a 2D xorg, just fluxbox, maybe 3D.
4) Will the mousepad work alright?
5) Soundcard, work?

I googled but found results of Suse and Ubuntu, wanted to double check arch will be ok.

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/120342

Thanks.

Re: Thinkpad R60E

I've got arch installed on a R50p. I do not use wireless but the rest runs fine 'out-of-the-box'.

Re: Thinkpad R60E

identify the modules needed for your wired and wireless connections.

hwdetect --net should be helpful for the wired connection.

example

$ hwdetect --net
MODULES=(8139cp mii)
$

For the wireless it will probably be ipw3495 .

Edit /etc/rc.conf and put the modules in the modules=() line so you'll get something like this :

MODULES=(8139cp mii ipw3495)

If you want the wireless to be eth1 , make sure you put the wired modules BEFORE the wireless module.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: Thinkpad R60E

you must put the modules (wifi and cabel network) in the blacklist, and in the Moduls Array, so first the modules won't load, and then in the right order
