Does it work w/ some live-distro
Yes I tried with debian 12 and linux mint, both of them showed the same error, first 2K was not detected and when explicitly set, xrandr failed to configure crtc
I am now thinking of buying a HDMI-to-USB to get this working

I meant live distros on the Windows notebook but since the HW specs stress that the output has been limited, that's not relevant any longer.
USB3 can but doesn't have to provide video and from the linked Dell forum it probably won't and you'd need a displaylink adapter.
