Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

Configuration is KDE using sddm and x11 with intel built-in graphics, running on 6.6.51-1-lts (64-bit)

I had removed 'google-chrome' (AUR) and installed chromium. Chromium did not launch and generated this error:

47824:47824:0918/102643.327845:FATAL:zygote_host_impl_linux.cc(207)] Check failed: . : No such file or directory (2)

I realized that the google-chrome .config file folder was still there, so I uninstalled chromium, renamed the .config file folder, and reinstalled chromium. This did not change the outcome.

Here is the file dump Chromium generated for the crash: http://0x0.st/X3L0.bin

Here is the chromium code related to the error.

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

If this means do as a coredump using systemd (a zst file): http://0x0.st/X3OG.bin

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

The idea was that you draw and post the backtrace (and that it might be related to the adwaita legacy icon hiccup)

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

Using Breeze Dark and same for icons.

Irrelevant - at least vivaldi seems to read the icon theme regardless of which one you actually use.

pacman -Qs adwaita

Is the backtace from a coredump in coredumpctl?
Running "gdb chromium" will likely not work because of the many subprocesses.

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

pacman -Qs adwaita
local/adwaita-cursors 46.2-1
    GNOME standard cursors
local/adwaita-icon-theme 46.2-1
    GNOME standard icons
local/adwaita-icon-theme-legacy 46.2-2
GNOME fallback icons for legacy apps
local/libadwaita 1:1.5.4-1
Building blocks for modern adaptive GNOME applications

Tried updating to adwaita-icon-theme-legacy 46.2-3 but it is not available yet.

Updated to 46.2-3 now but did not resolve the issue.

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

The sigtrap looks like you should get an "Aw, snap" error?

What happens if you

killall chromium
export DEBUG=pw:browser
chromium

seth wrote:

chromium

If that is supposed to generate moe detail to the console, it did not. Same as before:

[613911:613911:0920/165948.795229:FATAL:zygote_host_impl_linux.cc(207)] Check failed: . : No such file or directory (2)
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

The Chromium team is now aware of the issue and that it is triggered in module zygote_host_impl_linux.cc, line 207.

The offending section of code is:

// Within the PID namespace, the zygote boot process thinks it's PID 1,
// but its real PID can never be 1. This gives us a reliable test that
// the kernel is translating the sender's PID to our namespace.
    CHECK_GT(boot_pid, 1)
<< "Received invalid process ID for zygote; kernel might be too old? "
"See crbug.com/357670 or try using --"
        << sandbox::policy::switches::kNoSandbox << " to workaround.";

The suggested 357670 workaround of launching with

chromium --no-sandbox

did not fix the issue.

Ran it with

LD_DEBUG=files chromium > chromium.log 2>&1

and it generated in part this clue:

627315:	/usr/lib/chromium/chromium: error: symbol lookup error: undefined symbol: localtime64 (fatal)
627315:	/usr/lib/chromium/chromium: error: symbol lookup error: undefined symbol: localtime64_r (fatal)

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

crbug.com/357670 is ~ a decade old.

Is this a chromium flatschpak?
Are you running the hardened kernel?

uname -a
sudo LC_ALL=C pacman -Qkk | grep -v ', 0 altered files' | grep -v backup

Unless the extra repository uses the flatpak version, then no.
I am using the latest 6.6.52-1-lts kernel

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

No broken packages, but there's sth. shady going on.
Can you upload the chromium.log ld debug log?

printenv
grep -r . /etc/ld.so.conf*

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

Rien.
I grepped the local /usr/lib/*.so and the symbols aren't provided and /usr/lib/chromium/chromium has them undefined, so that's likely a red herring.

One thing that sticks out is GTK3_MODULES=xapp-gtk3-module
Can you launch chromium w/ a fresh user or outside KDE (eg. in an openbox session)?

Otherwise it's time for the broadsword…

strace -tt -f -o /tmp/huge_chromium.strace chromium
du -h /tmp/huge_chromium.strace
cat /tmp/huge_chromium.strace | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

I killed strace at 1.2G. Appreciate you trying to solve this, but I am leaving it to the Chromium team. Odd that Chrome works without any issue, but not Chromium.

Re: Chromium crashes with 'trap int3'

1.2GB is insane and means you're likely recursing on something untill the process gets killed.
