beryl stability

Finally decided to give beryl a try since it is so popular. Followed the instruction on Wiki page and got it installed. I am running it with kde not using a display manager. During the 15 (top) min play time, it crashed twice. Surely it would do better for you?

Re: beryl stability

The first thing I did when I got back from ubuntu to arch (like 2 weeks ago) was to install beryl.
Not a single crash.

I do have a 7900gt, but nvidia is the important part here.

Do you have ati or nvidia?

Edit: Oh, and I'm a gnome'r.

Re: beryl stability

Sorry. Should've mentioned my graphics card. It is a nvidia 6200. I switched to XFCE4 and things look better already. But KDE would be better.....

Re: beryl stability

Well, there shouldn't be any problem as long as you're running one of the newest nvidia beta drivers, and followed the wiki regarding xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
  Driver "nvidia"
  [...]
  Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
  Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals"
EndSection

Else, you could try aiglx or xgl and see if that makes things more stable.

But if it's a "kde thing", I wouldn't know the answer.
You could try the forum: http://forum.beryl-project.org/

That's a bit ignorant, don't you think?
For me Beryl is clearly more stable.

Re: beryl stability

have any of you tried running beryl or compix on a GeForce 2 MMX 400? I tried to get Ubuntu to use compiz, but I'd always get a GLX screen not found error.

Do a little research about Compiz and Beryl and come back.

Re: beryl stability

With the new release compitz is rock stable for kde and gnome.

well, "for me" sounds ... like a personal opinion, why not, if he feels more stable - free choice, isn't it?

Oh, get over yourself already.
I've been following the development/running Compiz/Beryl from the beginning.
And even before it was named Compiz.

There seem to be a lot of hatin' on the Compiz forum these days towards Beryl. It shows in your posts too.

I whish some people could just grow up.   roll

Re: beryl stability

Heh, I use even more never build of beryl than in Unstable tongue
And it never crashed. I use it on Nvidia GeForce 6100 (without Aiglx or Xgl).
Yes, I have black windows sometimes, but IIRC it's a bug in nvidia driver.

Re: beryl stability

Nvidia has alot of problems with black boxes and/or black textures lately...

But i'm sure they are about to fix that... i'm experiencing similar problems with some other applications as well.
