I used to use mpd on Ubuntu when I used fvwm, and I liked it. However, now I've gotten the real hang of it and I love it. I got my multimedia keys set up with mpc and I've pimped out my gmpc
Now I have two questions:
1) Is there an equalizer for mpd? (Obviously this isn't critical, but it's nice to have)
2) Is there an audio CD plugin? (If there is, I can ditch Audacious for good)
Thanks for your help!

MPD devs pretty strongly believe that software mixers suck because they reduce quality, and they always tell you to get yourself a hardware mixer instead.

Nope, and I doubt there ever will be. Most users just rip their cds

Thanks for the reply; personally, I couldn't care less if it lowers sound quality or not, I just wanna crank up the bass
Also, why won't mpc load my playlist automatically on startup? I have to open gmpc, make my playlist, and then play with mpc.
*edit* Nevermind, I solved it. I put
mpc ls | mpc add &
in my .xinitrc.

You need to tell mpd to keep a state file. Do that in /etc/mpd.conf and search for state_file. Seems like you still have some stuff to learn about it.
Todays mistakes are tomorrows catastrophes.

Perhaps you missed this one, but you can set where your playlists are in /etc/mpd.conf.
And when you add/change a playlist, just run mpc update.
Here it takes <3 secs for it to update.
To quickly switch playlist, I use ncmpc.

The config I used was from the wiki, I thought it was a bit lacking.
Thanks about the state_file, that's really helpful.

/etc/rc.d/mpd start

I have to start user mpd then mpc works ....
You can set software/hardware mixer in mpd.conf [if thats what you want!]
Mpd here has not worked on boot for a while.. maybe I should remove daemon & start it from .xinitrc
All noticed mpd/c is looking for a .pid file ?

Correction:
It takes < 3secs before the updated/new playlist is available in mpd.
How long the whole update takes, I don't know.
It should take longer in my case since I have all my songs mounted via samba.

Run mpd manually to see what the problem is:
/usr/bin/mpd /etc/mpd.conf
Also check the error.log defined in /etc/mpd.conf.

I ran mpc after boot got error not binding to port .... anyway running mpd clears that & then it works fine
Nothing in log files ... only old junk lol
Maybe I should take out mpd from daemons ... [ I'll check script!]
Thanks for your help

Did you configured it as described in Running MPD as normal user part of wiki page?
Maybe you use esd?

What do you mean?
Is this related to bug #6129?

Same problem here, what's the solution ?
EDIT: Changed "mpd" user to my user in the /etc/mpd.conf file.
