[SOLVED] linux-lts kernel lets me log in but cannot use terminal

I installed linux-lts and linux-lts-headers recently as a backup mechanism for my main kernel. However, whenever I log into the lts kernel from tty, the following things occur:

1. I login using tty
2. I startx to open my DE (which is i3)
3. Only one monitor turns on (of the 2) but my environment looks normal.
4. I use my i3 keybind to open st (simple terminal) as normal
5. The terminal opens but doesn't generate a prompt or generates a blank cursor (I am using zsh but tested with bash too).

None of my keys register any typing even in rofi drun.

Things I've tried:
1. Changing shell to bash instead of zsh
2. Trying with nvidia-lts package.
3. Tried changing terminal emulator to Alacritty

Still no success. Just trying shots in the dark at this point.

The main kernel still works?
Please post an X11 log and system journal for an LTS boot

sudo journalctl -b -1 | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

for the previous boot; this might not help if you resort to rebooting w/ the power button.

Yeah, main kernel is working fine (on 6.11.1-arch1-1)

I'm pretty sure you received a url, please don't copy the internet around.

You lack nvidia-lts, nvidia-utils blacklists nouveau so you're running on the simpledrm device - not sure how this triggers the described symptoms, but certainly install nvidia-lts first.

That's on the main kernel, the relevant output would be on the LTS one.
(You don't need a GUI session for this)

Got it. Here is what I received:

 modinfo: ERROR: Module nvidia not found. 
 modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia not found in directory /lib/modules/6.6.52-1-lts 

Should I be looking for nvidia-lts instead of nvidia? Thanks for all your help.

Yes, you need to have the kernel modules matching the kernel you want to use, nvidia is for the non-LTS kernel and nvidia-lts for the LTS kernel

But according to the pacman output they should be there

Yeah, I ran the command for nvidia-lts too and it still isn't finding the module when booted into lts via the tty. Is there something extra I need to do to make sure my lts kernel recognizes the nvidia-lts package?

Hi, I had a similar issue [SOLVED]Stuck at "[OK] Reached target Graphical Interface"

This fixed it for my, maybe it will work for you to:

sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/n/nvidia-lts/nvidia-lts-1:560.35.03-7-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

You can also wait until it gets resolved.

New update for nvidia-lts solved it. Everything is functional now. Thank you for sharing!
