Hello!
I have a 16:9 240hz monitor but would like to play CS2 ind 4:3,
I have already tried "nvidia-settings" and adding the resolution to "xrandr" but i get a error as soon as i try to apply the resolution onto my monitor
[user@archlinux ~]$ xrandr --addmode DP-0 "1920x1440_240.00"
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 18 (RRAddOutputMode)
Serial number of failed request: 43
Current serial number in output stream: 44
and it seems like not many have talked about this issue (at least i didn't find any previous posts might be wrong though)
On Windows it works flawlessly
P.S.: this is my first post since im new. have mercy on me and tell me if i have to edit the question or something

Do you not have a 4:3 resolution available? What is the output of `xrandr`?
Your xrandr invocation appears incomplete: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xrandr … esolutions
Btw I agree with 4:3 for CS. It's the only way to play.

and there's no realy reason for it - let alone any advantage - if at all you just cut your horizontal fov and cause yourself a disadvantage acutally
but if you feel you really have to: use proper launch options instead:
-w WIDTH -h HEIGHT -refresh REFRESH
substitue with your beloved values

there's no realy reason for it
I've been playing CS since it was a Half Life mod. 4:3 is the only way to play.
use proper launch options
That gives a stretched aspect ratio. 4:3 needs black bars either side of the screen.

that's an issue of your window manager - for me adding -w and -h works perfectly non-stretched: https://ibb.co/bsYh8TL
TLDR: the initial post is an XY problem: OP tries to get setting the resolution done instead of use the games own options to set it.

Well I was presuming the OP had tried the game's resolution options, which is the same as passing the options you suggest, but you raise valid points :-)
EDIT: apart from the 4:3 thing ofc. I'm definitely right about that

This doesn't seem to work for me, it just opens up in a box an doesnt use fullscreen + its still capped at 70hz

btw - just to compare: https://ibb.co/JmgTzpx vs https://ibb.co/f2mWFJR
the 4:3 clearly crops what's otherwise visible in 16:9 - so playing CS2 in 4:3 you actually reduce your FOV and get yourself a disadvantage - so, why do you want to play in 4:3 anyway?
if I would stand at the blue box on the far left in 4:3 you wouldn't see me at all - not very competitive in my opinion

QUICK REPLY to all:
Sorry for not adding more information's and im glad you guys are helping me out here so...
I dont wan't any black bars and when i play the game. just a stretched aspect ratio.
i tried this (-w WIDTH -h HEIGHT -refresh REFRESH) one user has suggested and tried ingame settings aswell but for some reason they dont have the desired outcome. (just a windows box instead of full screen or refresh capped respectively)
I'll try to get my process with "xrandr" and relay it back to you guys. Sorry for the delay

Weirdo
I think you need to set Display Mode to Fullscreen in the Video tab of the options menu. You have a few 4:3 options available.
Not sure about that --addmode error though, sorry.
not very competitive
Anything wider than 4:3 is cheating. #gatekeeper

told you it's an XY problem: your screen does not support 1920x1440 at 240Hz
@HoS
ignoring EDID and force an unsupported resolution can actually cause hardware damage
