[SOLVED] ALSA: laptop microphone not detected

Hey. I came from EndeavourOS and had a working installation with Gnome.

Did my first arch install but I couldn't manage to make my microphone be detected by gnome nor work.

This time I installed gnome again and followed theses tutorials for sound :

- https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Advanc … plications

But to no avail.

Searched the web a bit and couldn't find a fix that worked for me so here goes some output :

> sudo dmesg | grep -E 'snd|sof'

Somehow the microphone appears to be "not available". Tried testing the mic with `arecord` but no sound comes out.

Using a headset works though. Hope you have some ideas. Thanks

Re: [SOLVED] ALSA: laptop microphone not detected

There are three possible mic sources, did you test all of them?

arecord -Dhw:0,0 test.wav
arecord -Dhw:0,6 test.wav
arecord -Dhw:0,7 test.wav

I did try with this command for each source but I did not hear any sound (my sound works):

arecord --duration=5 --format=dat --device=hw:0,7 test-mic.wav

But your command causes this error which I did not find fixes for:

Warning: Some sources (like microphones) may produce inaudible results
with 8-bit sampling. Use '-f' argument to increase resolution
         e.g. '-f S16_LE'.

Re: [SOLVED] ALSA: laptop microphone not detected

Hey, I have no idea why but my microphone works, I rebooted multiple times and changed nothing since that post but it just worked tonight. The only thing I can remember is adding :

options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

to /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf

Thanks for your answer
