[ Possible Workaround ] Plasma 6.2 Graphics Updating Weirdness

Hi all, apologies for the dodgy post title but I had no better way to describe this.

TL;DR Disable all virtual desktops / workspaces (i.e. set KDE to one single desktop space) and see if it helps.

My card: NVidia 1660 Ti, 560 drivers

Issue I was experiencing: After a Plasma update earlier this year, I noticed that when playing a video with Kodi in a given workspace, if I switched away to another workspace, and left the video playing, the audio would continue (so the video was still playing) but when I switched back the video would be stuck on the frame that it was on when I left that workspace. It'd come good again after about 5-10 seconds (the audio would remain uninterrupted).

As an additional example, it would do this in my Guild Wars client as well. The client would stop processing on my side, except for audio, and it'd still talk to the server so I never got disconnected or anything. However graphics and any client-side processing would only resume when I moved back to the workspace it was on.

Anyway, I believed I had worked around the problem with a nvidia xorg conf tweak, and some kwin environment variables and all was good until Plasma 6.2 and this exact same issue reappeared. It's done my head in for a day or two of trying various other tweaks, undoing previous settings etc, but have now discovered that setting KDE to a single workspace / virtual desktop (I normally use 6 workspaces) and everything works as expected again.

I even undid all of my previous "workarounds" and having the single workspace has made things good again.

This might help someone so thought I'd share my experience, and this seems like a bug in kwin or some other component. Not sure if I should log a bug report or not, I only have my personal anecdotes, no logs n things really.

Cheers.

Wayland? Generally "normal" as KWin will stop rendering graphics unnecessarily for hidden elements (same should happen if you actively minimize a window)

Nah, X11. And it never used to behave badly, then it did, then I worked around it, then it did again, and the only thing that solves it now is by not having multiple workspaces.
