Using arch with LXDE, when start vmware workstation after maybe 10 minutes of use receive below messages and all network activity on host is stops but network is still working in guest vm. Below is the errors i receive -

Curious if anyone ever provided insights? I began experiencing identical behavior on my Fedora XFCE server that runs vmware workstation around this same time, specifically when I upgraded from kernel 6.6.4-100 to 6.6.6-100 back on Dec 19th, 2023.
Looking at the kernel messages, I see one warning thrown at boot time when the vmmon module loads, but it doesn't seem to affect system operation. Launching workstation in userspace throws another kernel message, and that's when the CPU stall begins. Eventually, the stall will block some critical system process, at which point the host OS has to be shut down via hard reset.

That machine is running kernel 6.7.9-200 now, and a clean install of vmware workstation pro 17.5.1, but this behavior persists.

This is a similar behaviour I've noticed yesterday. I wasn't sure if it was caused by a VM or something else, but now it looks like I could have the same problem. I'm currently trying to find out what's causing it. I see this behaviour on kernel 6.6.23-1. I have now installed kernel 6.8.2 and will test if the behaviour is different. I will post an update.

So it looks to me that it doesn't happen anymore with kernel 6.8.2. The VM was running for over an hour and I didn't see any issues. I have also installed 'realtime-privileges' package, but I don't think this is relevant here. I would definitely recommend testing a newer kernel version

I'm now running kernel 6.7.11, and I'm still seeing the behavior. I'll check back in when I get it up to the 6.8.x release.

I confirm, the issue no longer presents under kernel 6.8.4

Any idea what may be causing it?
I can't really upgrade the kernel due to having to use certain nvidia driver that is not compatible with anything newer than 6.6.1 and I'm getting this issue every time a VMware VM runs for over an hour.
