Tip of the day

I've read many posts on the forum about people loading their modules in the /etc/rc.local file...

If you have updated your system recently, you should find a new section MODULE in the /etc/rc.conf file allowing to load modules at startup!

I love this file  big_smile

Re: Tip of the day

Great. I haven't updated yet due to slow ISP but someday soon. In the meantime, I have a question. Are the modules loaded before the daemons? For example, I use a usb mouse and need the module for it so the gpm daemon will find it.

BTW, am I the only one who uses the gpm daemon? I've seen no mention of the fact that the default setup doesn't work with various 3 button mice (imps/2) and some ps/2 mice. The file is missing the required -t option.

Yes, modules are loaded from rc.sysinit, and as a consequence, before daemons (loaded from rc.multi).

About GPM, I'm using it too and it is indeed quite annoying...
There should be a config file allowing to choose the parameters.
I'll have a look at this  wink

Re: Tip of the day

the new module loading thingy rocks indeed!
but these things have to be anounced since a normal installation prevents overwriting rc.conf (for good reasons). So some will have missed this neat feature when they deleted the new rc.conf ... or is it just me?

Awesome: now I will finally compile modularized kernel (hate to load modules from rc.local). BTW: work on russian translation is continuing - it's a little bit harder than I thought it could be. smile
