[SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

Hi,

I used the Nik Collection 1.2.11 (the free version) on Wine just fine for many years. Now I noticed that it does not work anymore.

If I start e.g. Color Efex (the same way as I did before):

export WINEPREFIX=/home/thomas/.wine32
export WINEARCH=win32
wine /opt/nikcollection/Nik\ Collection/Color\ Efex\ Pro\ 4/Color\ Efex\ Pro\ 4.exe

the window appears but is "empty" (showing the frozen background window instead of Color Efex itself). I assume it is a problem with the GPU but could not find a solution.

I have an Optimus system with Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Using prime-run (which I did not do in the past) does not change anything.

The output of wine without prime-run is

0250:err:winediag:gnutls_process_attach failed to load libgnutls, no support for encryption
0250:err:winediag:process_attach failed to load libgnutls, no support for pfx import/export

0250:err:wgl:glxdrv_wglShareLists Could not share display lists because both of the contexts have already been current or shared

and with prime-run it is

02d0:err:winediag:gnutls_process_attach failed to load libgnutls, no support for encryption
02d0:err:winediag:process_attach failed to load libgnutls, no support for pfx import/export

02d0:err:wgl:glxdrv_wglShareLists Could not share display lists because both of the contexts have already been current or shared

Besides Nik Collection everything (including e.g. Steam) seems to work just fine).

I don't know when it stopped working exactly as I don't use it that often. Maybe I uninstalled something required (a library or something)? Any hint would be very helpful. I searched already but could not find a solution.

Thanks a lot

gnutls / lib32-gnutls are optional depends for wine, install them.
(Is unlikely to solve your issue, but will get rid of those err messages).

Is wine-mono installed ?

Are you running under X or wayland ?
is xf86-video-intel installed (remove it if it is) .

Sidenote :
setting winearch is only necessary when creating  a wineprefix.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

Thanks a lot for your reply. I installed gnutls and lib32-gnutls and the error is gone. Anyhow that did not change anything (as expected).

wine-mono (Wine Mono Runtime 9.3.0 and Wine Mono Windows Support 9.3.0) is installed.

xf86-video-intel was installed. I removed it but the problem remains.

I'm using X but it doesn't work using wayland as well. Anyhow wayland isn't working properly anyway (lagging a lot etc.).

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

Wine wayland support (and wayland in general) is not exactly mature, if you were using wayland I'd have asked to try under X .

Please post xorg log

There have been huge improvements in wine that allow many 32-bit applications to run in 64-bit prefixes .
Try installing & running Nik in a clean 64-bit WINEPREFIX .

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

The problem is the same using X and wayland. Actually I'm using mostly X as wayland is not working properly for me (lagging etc.). Maybe these problems are related to the problems in wine and my graphic setup is just not working properly.

I tried using wine in a 64 bit prefix with a clean install but the problem still persists. Anyhow it is very good to know that I can discard my 32 bit prefix as soon as it's working again :-)

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

What is the output of ls -l /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d ?

You appear to have a hybrid intel/nvidia system, please post lspci -k and the modules= line from /etc/mkinitcpio.conf .

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

Yes I've got a NVIDIA Optimus laptop with Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (see original post).

Here the info:

$ ls -l /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 386 28. Apr 2020  00-keyboard.conf

$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf

        Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
        Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
EndSection

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

Both videocards are shown as full vga controllers so inmitialisation order should not matter.

ext2 in modules= is a bit weird, as that filesystem is barely used nowadays, but it shouldn't hurt.

No weird things on low level as far as I can see, let's check journal just in case .
Please run journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st as root and post the link it outputs.

Wine releases a new major version every year since apporox 2016, and those often have big changes.
Can you pinpoint a year that you are positive Nik did still work ?

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

I have ext2 on my /boot partition (bit complex setup having LVM and LUKS with key on usb stick that has to be connected during boot). I guess that's why ext2 is there.

$ journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st
http://0x0.st/Xl8l.txt

I'm not using it that often and therefore I'm not 100% sure when it stopped working but one year ago (probably last major version then) it still worked.

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

The journal you linked was from user, you need to re-run the command as root to get the systemwide journal.

I'm not using it that often and therefore I'm not 100% sure when it stopped working but one year ago (probably last major version then) it still worked.

Please read https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_Linux_Archive and use the packages repo to test with older wine versions.
backup your exisiitng wine prefixes first just in case something goes wrong

Try with wine-8.21-2 and wine-7.22-1 .

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

Sorry I missed the "as root" part. Here the log: http://0x0.st/XlV0.txt

I tried wine-8.21-2 and wine-7.22-1 but the problem is the same. I guess it's safe to assume that wine isn't the problem but some setting / dependency on my system is.

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

Hmm, simpledrm is initialised and i915 starts after nvidia .
Xorg log does indicate the intel integrated gpu is the primary card.

Enabling nvidia modeset is supposed to be automatic now. That should also block simpledrm but doesn't appear to happen .

Please add nvidia_drm.modeset=1 to your kernel boot parameters and i915 to the modules line in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
regenerate initramfs, reboot .

If the error is still present with Nik Collection, test if it works with one of

$ DRI_PRIME=0 wine /path/to/nik_collection_executable
$ DRI_PRIME=1 wine /path/to/nik_collection_executable

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

I added i915 module and the modeset parameter. Sadly again nothing changed.

The DRI_PRIME=0 gives me "Invalid value (0) for DRI_PRIME. Should be > 0" and DRI_PRIME=1 gives me "failed to load driver: nouveau". As I'm using the proprietary NVIDIA driver I guess I have to use prime-run instead. Anyhow that does not work as well.

The new log is here: http://0x0.st/Xl5b.txt

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

simpledrm is no longer probed and i915 is started earlier.

The outputs you get are a bit weird, let's check more basic stuuf.

Re: [SOLVED] Nik Collection 1.2.11 on Wine not working anymore

Yes, I'm using auto login. I think that the other sessions were caused by a relogin that I did to switch between X and Wayland to do the test in both.

Here the result of all commands. I'm pretty sure that DRI_PRIME=1 does not working with the proprietary NVIDIA driver (causes an error). Therefore I also added the commands with prime-run (which works).

It was related to me not having the MS fonts installed. Seems that I removed them some time ago. Installing ttf-ms-win11-auto solved the problem.

Thanks for all the help.
