KDE problems - Display sleep

Hi

I've just moved over to KDE and SDDM from cinnamon & emptty

It seems to have sprung a new issue on me, even when I set emptty to launch instead of SDDM

My main monitor is quite slow. And I think it doesn't always seem to get detected - Leaving it asleep.

Strangely this was never an issue before moving to KDE/SDDM.

I'm pretty sure it only happens on a restart, rather than a shutdown

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

Does this also affect SDDM or only KDE?
Do you run KDE on X11 or wayland and does it make a difference?

kscreendoctor
qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation
xrandr -q
for OUT in /sys/class/drm/card*; do echo $OUT; edid-decode $OUT/edid; echo "================="; done

You'll need https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/edid-decode-git

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

This is SDDM, before I get to KDE

I've logged on to both X11 and Wayland. Currently using Wayland

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

I've just also noticed that switching off CSM in bios stops the screen from awaking too.

I've left it on

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

Both suggest there're two active (meaning they should show sth) outputs

DP-2 connected primary 3440x1440+0+1080 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 800mm x 345mm
   3440x1440 74.98*+
DP-1 connected 1920x1080+755+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 527mm x 296mm
   1920x1080 59.96*+

Which one doesn't work as expected, the Dell or the iiyama one?
It's a little odd that the Dell one only shows up w/ 75Hz modes, the EDID also defines
    DTD 2:  3440x1440   59.972616 Hz  43:18    88.819 kHz    319.750000 MHz (800 mm x 345 mm)
    DTD 3:  2560x1440   59.950550 Hz  16:9     88.787 kHz    241.500000 MHz (800 mm x 345 mm)
    DTD 4:  1920x1080   60.000000 Hz  16:9     67.500 kHz    148.500000 MHz (800 mm x 345 mm)

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

The Dell works flawlessly and is fast at turning on.

Unfortunately I work from the Iiyama 90% of the time and turn the Dell on only when I need it

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

The monitor is off or says "no signal" or so?
It doesn't show a mouse cursor (when theoretically moving the mouse there)

Does (on X11)

xset dpms force off; sleep 10; xset dpms force on

"fix" it?
Does

xrandr --output DP-1 --off; sleep 10; xrandr --output DP-1 --auto

?

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

Let me try those

The monitor goes into standby.
Even pressing a button waking it, the display is blank.

Same happens with the Dell - If it is not on at boot up - Once I'm in KDE I can turn on/off fine

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

I've rebooted and I'm on KDE desktop. Screen is asleep. Not showing up in display KDE menu

xrandr --output DP-1 --off; sleep 10; xrandr --output DP-1 --auto
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 7 (RRSetScreenSize)
Serial number of failed request: 20
Current serial number in output stream: 22

Hm - The screen did come on trying a second time. Though I think that may be due to either turning it off, or maybe running that command in the short time it stays 'active' (Blue led)

Let me try again

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

Hm

Switching TTY from SDDM - If I manually press the input button the monitor I can activate the monitor and see terminal.
Switching back to SDDM - The display goes inactive again

Both your commands above give a 'can't find display' message

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

I also just tried

GNU nano 8.2 /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup

#!/bin/sh
# Xsetup - run as root before the login dialog appears
xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 3440x1440

And logging in no longer turned on the monitor automatically.
Pressing 'input' on the monitor (blue light for a few seconds) and then running xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 3440x1440 does turn it on, though

Re: KDE problems - Display sleep

And logging in no longer turned on the monitor automatically.

Ok, but what's before loggin in (ie. wrt SDDM)

The X11 server will by default however enable all present outputs, maybe https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Systemd#Drop-in_files "systemctl edit sddm.service" and add a strategic

[Service]
ExecStartPre=sleep 5

?

kscreen will then restore its own config after the login:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/KDE#Un … lution_set

Both your commands above give a 'can't find display' message

This doesn't work from a console login, resp. you'll have to "export DISPLAY=:0" to tell which X11 server to use.
