I recently upgraded after a long delay, and now I have no sound.
My system has three physical cards: an onboard realtek codec (ALC892), an onboard intel HDMI output, and the HDMI output on my nVidia GPU.
Only the nVidia card seems to be operational, but the intel HDMI appears to be loaded.
I only use the realtek codec, because it is the only way to connect 5.1 surround.

00:1b.0 is the realtek codec; for a while it wasn't even showing up in lspci and I am not sure why it is now.
My modprobe configuration is a bit intense, but I have been using this successfully for many years. The point is to disable every card other than realtek codec.
/etc/modprobe.d/audio.conf
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1 enable=1,0 power_save=0 model=auto
install snd-hda-codec-hdmi /bin/false
blacklist snd-hda-codec-hdmi
blacklist snd-hda-codec-nvhdmi
blacklist pcspkr
I have tried removing and reloading the snd-hda-intel module without this configuration, which results in no "error -2" message, although the realtek codec remains unavailable, and still only the nVidia HDMI can be configured.
I also tried going back several kernel versions, but no version of 6.x would load the card, and 5.x failed to boot altogether.
I have been unable to find any documentation regarding snd-intel-hda's error codes, so I have no idea what "-2" means.
I read several posts about broken audio related to snd_soc_avs. I do not have this module loaded and I think my hardware is too old for sof-firmware.
