Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

I had to revert to kernel 6.10.9 as the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 chip on my board has lost at first the possibility to do wifi hotspot (while remaining connected to wifi) in 6.11.1 and now lost all bluetooth capabilities in 6.11.4

It never happened to me to have regressions with kernel updates, is there anything I should do to report such issues? Maybe is there something I need to adjust? For the moment I have to freeze linux package updates.

Re: Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

Can confirm that there is some regression in kernel 6.11.4 that wasn't there before. Sometimes all Bluetooth devices reconnect automatically after reboot (but after a while of inactivity they disconnect), sometimes they don't. There seems to be something wrong in logs around the time i left my devices inactive (can't confirm for certain, but it is probably after that they stopped reconnecting):

Re: Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

I am glad I am not alone. Same observation with a Bluetooth keyboard, which does not connect anymore, and does not even pair anymore using AX200 adapter on PCIe card. This was working perfectly prior to upgrading kernel.

Re: Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

Same here. Bluetooth is completely busted in the latest kernel for me. Bluetooth was working very good for awhile. Would reconnect very fast and consistently. Now bluetooth doesnt connect at all. Didn't bother checking the logs as I figured this regression would be discovered and patched very quickly. I'll just go wired for a few days until it's fixed.

Re: Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

I'd like for this to not turn into a "Me too" thread.

That said, me too.  my lspci reports:

00:14.3 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (rev 20)

.

It has been rock solid until a recent kernel/firmware update.   Bluetooth is okay for audio streams, but I am experiencing complete failure of WiFi networking with a mean time between failures measured in 10s of hours.  When it fails, all WiFi activity acts like there are no access points out there.  Restarting Networkmanager is not enough to recover.  It requires a minimum of warm reboot to bring things back.  Power down and restart is NOT required.

The journal is absolutley silent as to errors with the exception of

Oct 19 11:13:33 odin systemd-resolved[663]: Using degraded feature set UDP instead of TCP for DNS server 2600:1700:48>

That message then spams the logs for hours periodically.

Donning my moderate hat, please, no "Me too" posts unless you are providing new information.

@ewaller is the issue still present in 6.12rc3-1? (built by grommit)

I don't use the wifi but the bluetooth is totally fubar after 6.11.2 using my "Intel Corporation Wireless 3165" chipset.

My limited google-fu only found this https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/ … 1-3/133885

I'll check.  Probably won't get to that until tomorrow.

Intel Wifi AX201. Bluetooth stopped working with 6.11.4. downgrading to 6.11.3 fixed it for me

my macbook air (2012) does not boot at all after 6.11.4, it hangs at loading the initramfs. After a couple of times, I had to fix it back to 6.11.3

Well, this kernel with the reverted commit works perfectly for me and my Logitech M650 mouse now works again perfectly on Bluetooth.

Re: Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

I was having the same issues with my bluetooth keyboard, but I found that I could still get it to connect eventually. In Plasma, I'd press the connect button for the keyboard in the bluetooth menu while waking up my keyboard over and over. Eventually I would get a notification that the connection failed, but it would start working right after.

Having said all that, I still downgraded to 6.11.3 and it's working fine again without all that nuisance.

Re: Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

It seems like there are currently also some bluetooth regression fixes on the way to mainline so rc4 and following stable backports might already have solutions for the issues mentioned: https://lore.kernel.org/all/CABBYNZL0_j … .gmail.com

linux 6.11.4-arch1 with https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke … 8f9efbbfcb applied which is a partial revert of https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke … ec92a0a271 that was added in 6.11.4 and was at least the cause of the issue for @rouelle:
linux-6.11.4.arch1-1.2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst/linux-headers-6.11.4.arch1-1.2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst.

Same here, it mostly doesn't work after waking from sleep and when the frequency band changes on the access point, same as yours, with no errors in the journal.

Re: Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

There is a 6.11.4.arch2-1 kernel available. Does it address this issue?

Edit: I answer myself to the lazy me smile https://github.com/archlinux/linux/comm … bf9027a39d
"Bluetooth: btusb: Fix not being able to reconnect after suspend"
so yes, it should fix this problem.

Edit 2: seems to work fine indeed. Thanks to the maintainers smile

Re: Kernel 6.11 worsened hardware support for intel wifi and bluetooth

Kernel 6.11.5 was released on 2024-10-22, and the above mentioned patch is included. This is the diff between 6.11.4 and 5.

Thanks all!

# I'd been using 6.10 and finally installed 6.11 and...ouch!!
# I first tried to re-pair my devices, then cleaned all bluetooth config at /var/lib/bluetooth/ T_T.

The upstream diff misses that Arch had already applied the same change in https://github.com/archlinux/linux/comm … bf9027a39d as part of 6.11.4.arch2-1.

Up time is almost 24 hours on 6.11.5.  So far, it seems solid here.

I am on kernel 6.11.6-arch1-1: It did *not* fix my problem.

Still the system freezes either (a) if bluetooth is enabled, system freezes 100% after wakeup or (b) if bluetooth is disabled (systemctl disable --now bluetooth.service) after 2-3 sleep+wakeup cycles. Journald shows nothing after going to sleep.

Is the latest mainline tree also affected with these issues @sonnyka:

Kernel linux-mainline-6.12rc5-1 behaves the same as 6.11.6-arch1-1 does -> system freezes on wakeup. Journald shows no entries.

I am on the LTS kernel 6.6.59-1-lts which is (still?) working fine.
