plasmashell is up to 100% cpu (single core) after update

I have updated my box today after not updating for three months.

After restarting I noticed the fan was on high. For some reason, plasmashell is using 100% of the cpu (one core only though). Is it doing some cleaning up in the background? Updating some database?

I killed the process and restarted it immediately after but it keeps using 100% cpu.

Any hints on what might be happening?
