Reloading system manager configuration takes a long time when updating

When updating my systems I sometimes get "Reloading system manager configuration..." for a long time. The process eventually completes but I have to wait longer than usual. So far I have not been able to determine the exact nature of the issue. However it may be that it happens when updating a large number of packages. I found some forum posts on this issue so I am not alone. The only suggestion I found was to replace dbus-broker-units with dbus-daemon-units. With Arch transitioning to dbus-broker that seems like a step backwards.

I am not a programmer but I have a test system if anyone is interested in having me run some tests. In the meantime I will tray to gather more information in hopes of finding a solution.
