Installing Discord and symlink

Hello,

New arch user here, got everything installed following the wiki and other tutorials so far but am running into some trouble with installing Discord and running it.

First, I tried installing via pacman but it is requesting an update after install. Ref: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Discord

That failed so I've followed the idea of extracting the discord tarball to /opt/discord-temporary/ and have set a symlink to that discord.desktop to my ~/.local/share/discord/ folder. Now, I'm not sure where to go from here, running the discord command from Konsole doesn't work nor is there a desktop icon available in the Application Launcher. Any help would be appreciated, not sure if any other info would be helpful or not but let me know. Thanks

Re: Installing Discord and symlink

You could turn off the auto update in Discord and rely on pacman or use the flatpak version.

Re: Installing Discord and symlink

I did try to turn off the auto update and removed/installed discord but it still asks for the update afterwards. I didn't try flatpak as the wiki offers but didn't know about it's difference and use(d) pacman for everything else.
