Hi.
Another issue after upgrade lsmod showes that it loads modules:
root@ichi ~]# lsmod | grep snd
snd_seq_oss 29440 0
snd_seq_midi_event 6528 1 snd_seq_oss
snd_seq 47056 4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_seq_device 6796 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
snd_hda_intel 15768 0
snd_pcm_oss 38944 0
snd_mixer_oss 14464 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_hda_codec 156800 1 snd_hda_intel
snd_pcm 68612 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_hda_codec
snd_timer 18948 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd 44004 9 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 6624 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 7816 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
but then I do ls -l /dev/snd/ it showes there is no device.
Also:
[root@ichi rc.d]# ./alsa start
/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1327: No soundcards found...
Reinstalling alsa does nothing .
Any idea ?
Peace.

could we get a 'dmesg' output?

http://matchil.hopto.org/archlinux/dmesg.log
I compared the modules loaded by the previous version of the kernel (where it works) with the once loaded by the *.19 the only diffrence is the size of modules.

ook
rm /etc/asound.state
This removes the old volume state file, snd-hda-intel has changed it's layout before, so it's probably done that again.
then go to alsamixer, do your volumes yourself, see how that works.

Hm. I've done it, but its not it ... Its not like I have volume problem. Even thou modules are loaded, the ls -l /dev/snd/ gives:
[matchil@ichi ~]$ ls -l /dev/snd/
razem 0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 1 gru 4 2006 seq
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 33 gru 4 2006 timer
Only. No device is found. Donno why. It works with previous kernel and I tested it with -ck (2.6.18 ) and also works good. Its strange that it loades modules good but doesnt create /dev/snd/ entries.
Any other idea ?

Looks like your soundcard is not initialized for some reason:
ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:1b.0 disabled
HDA Intel: probe of 0000:00:1b.0 failed with error -13
Try to reboot first and check the sound and/or try with acpi disabled ?

After a while ...
Still didn/t manage to make my sound card work with any of 2.6.19 kernels but I achived some progress - when I disaple my modem in BIOS, there are some more /dev/snd/* and when trying to play music I get some error about my sound card being busy.
I guess I'll stick with 2.6.18-ck kernel
If you find any solution please post it here I might compile the kernel to check if it will change anything ... but some other time
Peace and thanks.
