I have currently a problem, which got over time worse. When i launch a proton game, it is gambling for me, when i play it, it will freeze after 5-60 and i don't know how to solve it. It is even seconds when a second monitor is connected or i try to share my desktop via Vesktop or record with obs.
Which Games i tried and keeps happening:
Epic Battle Fantasy 4
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007)
Final Fantasy XVI
Monster Hunter World
Doom 1+2
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster
I don't know how to solve it and i hope i can hear some solutions.
Specs:
Model Gigabyte A7 K1 Laptop
AMD Ryzen 7 5800H
NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3060 (installed the open source driver via nvidia-open)
Using KDE Plasma as Desktop Environment.

I'm newbie myself, but I think you should first check for temps(gpu/cpu) and the drivers and include it here

as doom 1 and 2 are very likely using pure cpu software rendering (depends on actual used port) and as we all know doom runs on calculators I doubt a hardware issue
more likely some software problem
I would try synthetic stressload with furmark

Forgot to say, with Doom 1+2 i meant the 2024 Re-Release from Nightdive Studios. Playing with the GZDoom Source Port works fine.

I tried the Furmark Benchmark with "furmark --demo furmark-vk --width 1920 --height 1080" and i had solid 115-120 FPS, but apparently it crashed after 5 minutes i tabbed out. ![]()

next idea: to figure out if it's some issue of your OS: boot some live distro and run furmark again
if it keeps crashing it could maybe a hardware problem - if it's stable then we have to dig thru configs

TL;DR Apparently i fixed it, when i start KDE Plasma in a Wayland Session.
I tried first EndeavourOS in a live boot session and started furmark. It freezed after 5 minutes, when it was not for a minute not an active window. I thought afterwards "..it could be an KDE Plasma issue, since EndeavourOS also uses KDE as liveboot DE."
Booted back into Arch, installed Gnome and started furmark again. And... it worked. It ran for 20 minutes straight ahead and it ran in the background flawless. Then i remembered Gnome starts normally in a wayland session, and since i'm not a big fan of gnome, i started KDE Plasma in a wayland session and ran again furmark and it also worked. Then i started Shin Megami Tensei III (which is from all games the least stable one) and also started a screen share via Vesktop. It also worked for a half hour and now i'm happy it just works now. I stayed for X11, since i had problems with wayland in the past, but apparently it is now fully functional for me.
Thank you for your tips cryptearth.
